Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $2,500 to Alaska artists in eligible locations for professional development activities. Funding is intended to assist artists at any stage of their career in producing original artwork, creating displays, presenting performances, or teaching skills or classes. All art forms and idioms including, but not limited to, visual arts, dance, music, fabric arts, photography, theater, and literary arts are eligible for grant funding from the Arts Vibrancy Endowment. Funds must benefit artists residing in Juneau.

The Individual Artist Award grant program is dedicated to the development of artists in their pursuit of the creation of original works, by fostering the creative process that produces their vision.

Artists may apply for an award for a specific, short-term project that has clear benefits to the artist and the development of their work. Examples of funded activities might include travel and fees associated with workshops and other advanced study opportunities; professional documentation of an artist’s work for submission to juried shows or galleries; and costs associated with the creation/installation of work that is scheduled for public viewing. Cost-of-living expenses may be included, but applicants should clearly explain how this would allow them to accomplish their project goals.

Selection criteria for awards include:

  • The quality of artistic work within the context of the individual’s experience, training, and career stage.
  • The artist’s creative accomplishments and the promise of future artistic excellence.
  • The quality and thoroughness in completing the application.
  • The likely impact an award at this time will have on an applicant’s future artistic and career growth.
