Grant Description

Grants of $1,000 to USA, Canada, and International graduate students and early-career psychologists affiliated with a nonprofit institution or government entity for research projects addressing population concerns and human reproductive behavior. Requests will be accepted from applicants in any relevant discipline who can demonstrate a psychological work approach, with preference given to psychologists. Eligible uses of funding include, but are not limited to, technology expenses, supplies, travel to conduct research or disseminate findings, stipend support, and training.

APF supports original, innovative research and projects. Although APF favors unique, independent work, the Foundation does fund derivative projects that are part of larger studies.

Most APF programs allow for a wide range of direct costs. Examples include (but are not limited to): Participant payments, supplies, technology expenses (software, hardware, imaging, etc.), travel to conduct research, travel to disseminate findings, stipend/salary support, course buy out and supplemental training.

Additional Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be:
- Graduate students conducting dissertation research or early career psychologists no more than 10 years postdoctoral.
- Demonstrated interest in human reproductive behavior or related population concerns.
- Open to applicants in all relevant disciplines who have a demonstrated psychological approach to their work, with preference given to psychologists.

To receive APF funds, recipients must be affiliated with a nonprofit charitable, educational or scientific institution, or governmental entity operating exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.

International applicants from countries that have diplomatic relations with the United States and who meet the other eligibility requirements may apply for APF funding.

APF Trustees must wait one year after their term of service before they can be considered for a grant or an award.

APF welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds with respect to age, race, color, religion, creed, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, gender, and geography.

APF does not allow institutional indirect/administrative/overhead costs and/or fees to be taken out of grant monies. (Funded researchers may use grant monies for direct administrative costs of their proposed project.) If the applicant is selected for funding, and the institution accepts the funds on behalf of the applicant, the institution must adhere to the grant application budget and affirm in writing, on the grant Terms & Conditions, that it will waive all institutional indirect/ administrative/overhead costs and/or fees.

Pre-Application Information

The deadline for applications is February 15, 2023. Applications are due at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time (HST) on the due date.

APF tries to announce grant recipients approximately two to three months after a grant deadline, though the exact time may take shorter or longer depending on the number of applications received.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval is required for any research project involving human participants.

APF cannot disburse grant monies without IRB approval. Successful applicants have six months from the date of the grant approval to obtain IRB approval, or the grant will be rescinded.

You can apply to as many APF programs as you like. Researchers can win multiple awards for different projects. Each individual project, however, can only win once. This means that if you win funding for your project, that specific project will be removed from consideration for future funding opportunities from APF.

The Research Grant provides $1,000.

Term of Contract

Funding begins when recipients submit IRB approval and the required paperwork. APF funding will continue for a maximum of 12 months from the date of the grant, unless otherwise specified.
