In-kind grants of products valued at up to $5,000 to USA, Canada, and International nonprofit and educational organizations to advance environmental and wildlife-related research. Funding is intended to support studies related to animal biology, conservation, habitat monitoring, and vocal wildlife, such as bats, birds, and frogs.

Consideration will be given to projects that meet the following criteria:

  • Project makes significant use of wildlife vocalization recordings for data collection and/or analysis.
  • The work advances scientific knowledge and contributes to long-term conservation.
  • The grant would have significant impact on the success of the project.
  • The application provides adequate information to facilitate project evaluation, including detailed expected outcomes and the need for bioacoustics data to support those outcomes.

Eligible products:

  • Recorders: SM4, SM4BAT FS, SM Mini, SM Mini Bat
  • Microphones and Hydrophones for these recorders
  • Microphone extension cables and External power cables
  • Echo Meter Touch 2 standard and PRO models¬†
  • Kaleidoscope Pro 5 subscriptions
  • Accessories: Armor, GPS modules, Ultrasonic calibrators, Windscreens for SM4, SMM-A2 and SMM-U1¬†
  • Replacement stub mics for SM4

Estimated Size of Grant:

Recipients will receive up to $5,000* worth of products. They will also have the opportunity to have their work featured on the funding source's website and social media channels.

*Up to $5,000 is available to be awarded each quarter. If an application for less than $5,000 is awarded, then another application can also be awarded as long as the total granted is less than or equal to $5,000.

Term of Contract:

Award recipients must start their project within one year of the time they are awarded.

The project must begin in the same year the application is submitted (or the following year if the application is submitted in the off-season).

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grant recipients must be associated with a charitable, educational or other tax-exempt organization. (If your country does not grant tax-exempt status or does not provide documentary proof, please include a letter affirming your organization will cover any taxes assessed by your government.)

Government agencies are not eligible.

The Foundation does not grant cash, or equipment or products manufactured by other companies.

Submersible marine products including the SM3M Deep Water and Submersible recorders and related accessories are ineligible. SM2+, SM2BAT+, EM3+, SM3 and SM3BAT recorders and related accessories are also ineligible.

Due to pending NOM certification as required by the Mexican government, all shipments to Mexico are currently limited to EMT2 and EMT2 Pro units.

Accessories such as microphones and cables are eligible for the program. However, 3rd party accessories such as SD cards, batteries and battery chargers, padlocks and cable locks are not eligible.

Products will be shipped as soon as possible after the award decision. The Foundation will pay for all freight fees, however, you will be responsible for any duties and taxes for international shipments.

You may only apply for one project per quarter.

If you received a product grant and you later determine that you need more Wildlife Acoustics products, you can apply for an additional grant only after all of the requirements have been met for the previous grant.

If you applied and were not awarded a grant in one quarter, you may re-apply in other quarters by resubmitting an application.
