Grants starting at $500 to USA animal shelters and rescues to provide adoption fees for dogs and cats that have a difficult time finding permanent homes. This may include special needs pets, as well as bully breeds, long-term residents, adult pets, senior pets, and black/darker-colored pets.

The Prizes:

First Place: A grant of $2,000 to put towards adoption fees for less-adoptable* pets at the first-place shelter or rescue.

Second Place: A grant of $1,000 to put towards adoption fees for less-adoptable* pets at the second-place shelter or rescue.

Third Place: A grant of $500 to put towards adoption fees for less-adoptable* pets at the third-place shelter or rescue.

Pets that traditionally have a harder time finding forever homes. This includes, but is not limited to: adult pets, senior pets, long-term residents, bully breeds, black/darker-colored pets and special-needs pets.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The DOGust Birthday Contest is open to U.S. 501(c)(3) animal shelters and rescues that adopt out dogs and/or cats and have not won a 1-800-PetMeds Cares™ contest in the last year (August 1, 2016-July 31, 2017).

Pre-Application Information:

All submissions must be completed by an appointed group representative. Each group is limited to one entry. Any entries that do not meet the requirements may be disqualified.

The submission period will run from 12:00 a.m. ET on August 1 through 11:59 p.m. ET on August 7. All entries must be received by August 7, 2017 11:59 PM ET.

Voting period: Starting at 12:00 a.m. ET on August 8, participants can vote once per hour and voting will close at 11:59 p.m. ET on August 14.
