Grants of up to $5,000 to USA, Canada, and International individual researchers and research groups, as well as officers and board members of eligible organizations to support wildlife conservation research. Applicants are required to submit an initial inquiry prior to submitting a full proposal. Proposals should focus on the research and conservation of a specific vulnerable, endangered, or threatened species, or a specific habitat that is of high biological value or that is substantially threatened (IUCN Red List).

Eligible projects include those that will quantitatively assess population and environmental status with indications of best conservation strategy and projects that will help achieve sustainable relations between local people and the species of concern. The development of educational projects and training that assist in building local conservation capacity are given higher priority.

There is the expectation that some kinds of equipment will be standard and will already be in the possession of qualified investigators.
