Grant Description
Grants to USA and Canada collaborations between local government agency directors, community groups, and place-based funders to support environmental stewardship and social justice. Funding may be used for personnel costs and for project-related expenses. Applicants may submit Equitable Climate Action and/or Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) applications.
Applications are to: 
  • Create or improve collaborative partnerships between a local government sustainability and/or water department(s), frontline community group(s), and place-based funder(s).
  • Planning or implementation of an Equitable Climate Action (ECA) and/or Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) project that addresses frontline community priorities. 

Partners for Places funds can be used for:

  • Personnel costs related to the work, like supporting new local government interns or staff, new or existing staff supporting frontline communities, or consultant fees.
  • Other project costs, like community stipends, supplies, administrative expenses, or small capital / equipment expenses directly related to the work.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Partners for Places has helped fund sustainability projects and foster connections in dozens of communities across the U.S. and Canada.

This opportunity supports advancing collaborative partnerships between a local government sustainability and/or water department, frontline community partner, and place-based funder.

One-year grants are available to partnerships that have previously received a Partners for Places mini grant.

Two-year grants are available to all eligible partnerships.

Ineligible
There are no open general grants with Partner for Places.

Open general grants (e.g., Rounds 17, 18, and 19) are not eligible to apply, as they are already funded for planning and/or implementation work.

Timeline:
- December 7, 2022: Invitation to Apply is released
- January 10, 2023, at 3 pm EDT: Informational webinar for interested applicants
- February 27, 2023, by 11:59 pm., any time zone: Applications due
- May 2023: Awards announced

To be eligible, all applications must comply with each of the following:
- At least a 50% cash match of the requested amount has been identified
- There are no open general grants with Partner for Places-
Only one application per grant cycle has been submitted by each collaborative partnership.

These one-to-one matching awards provide partnership investments with one or more local foundations required to provide at least a 50% matching grant.

Number of Grants
The Round 20 grant pool will likely support 7-10 projects.

Estimated Size of Grant
Applicants can apply for one of the following:
- One-year grants for $45,000 and $150,000
- Two-year grants for $75,000 and $180,000

Term of Contract
Partners for Places grants have a life span of anywhere from 1 to 2 years. Two-year projects are strongly encouraged, to allow time for partnership building.
